Practice Groups

Barracudas

This is an introductory swimming group, geared towards those just coming off of a summer swim league and interested in advancing their swimming skills.  This group focuses on stroke development, stroke drill education, pool safety, and the basic rules of USA-S competition. Requirements include the ability to swim one full length of the pool comfortably and unassisted, and knowledge of freestyle and backstroke. This group swim for 1 hour, three times a week.   The typical age for this practice is 6-10 years old.

Junior

Swimmers in this group have developed the ability to follow an organized swimming set within a practice, different stroke drills, and are able to set specific goals for practice and competition.  Swimmers in this group will develop good training backgrounds and nutritional practices. Their practice time is dedicated to building endurance, race strategy education, and an introduction to basic dryland practices.  This group practices 5 days a week, for 2 hours.

Senior

Senior swimmers are competitive and well versed in technique, race strategy, and nutritional values. They can swim all 4 strokes with good stroke mechanics, have good sportsmanship, and have state qualifying times or better.  This group has mastered setting specific goals and planning out how to achieve them.   This group practices for 2 hours, 6 days a week, with a solid mix of swimming and dryland training.

Elite

Elite swimmers are those with Sectional, Futures, or National qualifying times.  These swimmers are highly dedicated to their sport, their stroke mechanics, race strategy, nutrition, and teamwork.  This group practices 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day, with a mix of dryland training and swimming.  Practice time varies from 2-3 hours, several times during the week.
